Zombie Game (Pre-Alpha 0.1.3) now Released!

We’re back baby!

Sorry for the short hiatus over the past couple months, we took a short break over Christmas and New Years. We eventually thought we wouldn’t be able to get away with not doing anything for much longer, so here is the first update for the year!

In this update, 0.1.3, we build upon our previous changes so there are a lot of “Under the Hood” tweaks and some new gameplay features. The most notable new feature is, zombies now leave a blood splatter upon their gruesome death, we’ve also fixed the fullscreen option, added a new resolution option, and also your hard earned high scores are now saved locally!

We’ve updated the game to the latest version of Löve2D and overhauled the game’s option menu. We’ve managed to squish a few of the bugs that were plaguing the menus and the gameplay and made an adjustment or two to add some clarity.

Stay tuned for the next update, as there’s more things to come! And, as always, if you find any bugs at all with the current build, as simple as it may be, report them here. It is better to catch even the smallest of bugs as soon as possible. We rely greatly on the communities feedback, suggestions and reports of bugs.

Zombie Game (Pre-Alpha 0.1.2) now Released!

Introducing our newest update!

Following on with changes from 0.1.1, we’ve added new power-ups to what is now called Arcade mode. (We decided it fitted the arcade theme better than what we originally planned for Endless.)

In addition, we’ve tuned existing power-ups and made a lot of clarity changes in terms of visuals and audio, namely in the form of our new in-game UI. New power-ups include extra lives, and mystery power-ups that have a chance of creating negative and positive effects alike.

Both Arcade and Stuck In The Mud (SITM) have received entirely new scoring systems! SITM now derives a players score based on their accuracy (Sorry, spammers and macro users) and assigns a grade from A+ to N/A. The changes to Arcade’s scoring system are generally under-the-hood improvements, so let us know what it’s like in comparison to the previous version!

Stay tuned for the next update, as there’s more things to come! And, as always, if you find any bugs at all with the current build, as simple as it may be, report them here. It is better to catch even the smallest of bugs as soon as possible. We rely greatly on the communities feedback, suggestions and reports of bugs.

Changelog:

Menu:

  • Changed button hitboxes to alleviate clicking issues.

Gameplay:

  • “Endless” mode is now called “Arcade” mode, and vice versa.
  • Added a grading system in SITM that works off accuracy. (“score” is now your kills * accuracy)
  • New scoring system for Arcade.
  • Changed Shield to Wave 5 onwards.
  • Shield now lasts for a full 10 seconds.
  • Shield can be used at the same time as other power-ups.
  • Wave length now increases with each wave.
  • Power-ups now spawn based on score.
  • Power-ups can now spawn more than once in a wave.
  • Added “1up” power-up – gives you an extra life.
  • Added a mysterious new power-up, marked with a question mark.
  • Continue screen now appears if you have an extra life.
  • A shotgun now replaces the pistol as the default weapon past wave 10.

Aesthetics and Sound:

  • New UI! The HUD in-game is now a lot clearer and easier to understand. Details below…
  • Health now displays under the player when you are hit, disappears as you heal.
  • New power-up display: Power-up details are now displayed more clearly.
  • Health flashes during healing.
  • Increasing health with a power-up permanently adds extra health points and a secondary health bar.
  • New look to game over screen for SITM .
  • New music for SITM and Continue screen.

Code and Misc:

  • Cleaned up code.
  • Fixed power-up spawning issue.
  • Fullscreen is still a work in progress.

Zombie Game (Pre-Alpha 0.1.1) now Released!

Introducing the Powerups Update! This is one of our largest updates yet, adding a variety of powerups to “Endless” mode!

This is our first major update to the game since its inception, bringing real variety to Endless mode and making it a more fun game overall.

In addition to the new powerups, we’ve added various visual features, namely fullscreen mode (Currently in a very buggy state – Scaling is a pain right now.) and the ability to use your mouse in game menus.

As for the powerups added, there are a total of 4 new powerups included in the game with more to come:
Velocity – Speed boost. Self explanatory.
Vitality – Makes you not die as quickly. (More Health)
Invulnerability – Ever used a star in Mario? Like that, but less cheerful music and colours, and more zombie killing action, as opposed to koopa troopers and the like. (Grants you a shield which kills zombies on impact)
Nuke – Also self explanatory. (Kills everything on screen.)

Stay tuned for the next update, as there’s more things to come! And, as always, if you find any bugs at all with the current build, as simple as it may be, report them here. It is better to catch even the smallest of bugs as soon as possible. We rely greatly on the communities feedback, suggestions and reports of bugs.

Introducing ZombieGame, our new project!

We’re proud to announce our newest project – Zombie Game!

We’ve put SpaceGame on the backburner to work on a small, fun 2D top-down shooter. Zombie Game is the story of a nameless survivor in an empty world with nothing but the clothes on his back and a loaded pistol to make it through the day. Also, everyone else became zombies somehow and he has to fight them, or they’ll eat him or something. You know the drill.

The game currently has 2 game modes:

  • Endless: A small map with an endless supply of mindless killing machines for you to mindlessly kill. Powerups like the Minigun and SMG help your waveclear significantly.
  • StuckInTheMud: A test for yer’ clickin’ hand. As the name implies, you’re stuck in the mud. You cannot move. And you’ll probably get RSI if you play for too long.

We plan on adding 2 additional modes:

  • Survival: Survive by finding food, water and ammunition. Build shelter to protect you at night. This is essentially the “story” or “campaign” mode.
  • Arcade: Like Endless. Except crazy. Or something like that.

We’ve put just over a month into development of this game so far, and it has a long way to come yet, but please enjoy. And, as always, if you find any bugs at all with the current build, as simple as it may be, report them here. It is better to catch even the smallest of bugs as soon as possible. We rely greatly on the communities feedback, suggestions and reports of bugs.
